Smart Irrigation Program

The 2022 Smart Irrigation Program (SIP) for Cities consists of 9 components.  The city partners in advertising with us, but Safe Water Commission does all the rest:

  1. Joint advertising for the program to gain trust by residents in the program to improve participation.
  2. Scheduling all the recipients by telephone and a reminder email.
  3. Performing a thorough yard evaluation (also referred to as a "Simple" Irrigation Audit) by a Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor of the entire irrigation system.
  4. Replacing the old controller with a weather-based controller that typically provides 35% water reduction.
  5. Setting the new controller run days to meet the odd or even criteria of cities.
  6. Setting the new controller run times for appropriate water reduction averaging an additional 25% typically.
  7. Adding or replacing a rain sensor (optional and for an additional fee) to see an additional water reduction of 5% to 10%.
  8. Writing a detailed evaluation report for each participant (a "Simple" Audit) showing the detailed findings and recommendations for follow-up work if necessary.
  9. Submitting detailed information to the city which can be used to easily facilitate grant reimbursement if needed.

Note that for cities in the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area, Safe Water has been approved for reimbursement by Bryan Davis through your Metropolitan Council water conservation grants due to our EPA Water Sense approval and certification.
